Wall Paintings for a Roman Experience
For the permanent exhibition at Museum Cultuurforum Aardenburg, I created a series of large-scale wall illustrations that visually reconstruct daily life in Roman Aardenburg. These murals form the visual backbone of the museum experience, immersing visitors in scenes of Roman housing, baths, domestic life and military. Each painting is carefully based on archaeological research and developed in close consultation with the museum team.
Wall Paintings for a Roman Experience
The illustrations show how people in Rodanum — the Roman settlement that once stood in Aardenburg — lived, worked, dressed, and celebrated. From modest woolen tunics to imported silks, and from communal bathhouses to the layout of Roman homes, every detail was designed to reflect daily life as accurately as possible. The murals support the objects on display and help translate fragmented finds into vivid, accessible storytelling.
