Visual Support for “Square Meter: Everyone an Archaeologist!”
For the public project Square Meter: Everyone an Archaeologist! by SOLVA, I provided the complete visual development—from concept to final product. In close collaboration with the project team, I designed a consistent and recognizable visual identity applicable across all communication materials, both digital and printed. The style prioritizes clarity, coherence, and accessibility for a broad audience.
Within this framework, I also designed the posters and flyers used in the public campaign. These materials were developed to inform and engage the residents of Herzele in preparation for the excavation weekend on 20–21 September 2025. All printed materials align visually with the project’s branding and are adapted to different formats and use cases, from large banners to registration cards.
In addition, I created two custom illustrations for the project. These visuals depict the participatory archaeology process in a clear and approachable way. Each illustration followed a structured workflow: starting with a concept sketch based on a client briefing, followed by a Google Maps layout, a 3D positioning study, a refined sketch, and finally a detailed color rendering. This process is also explained step by step on my website using screenshots.
This is the preliminary sketch provided by the client, along with excavation plans and photographic reference material, used as a starting point to guide the visual development process.
Coherent Visual Design for Heritage Projects
My approach offers clients an integrated solution where illustration, graphic design, and spatial visualization are fully aligned. This all-in-one workflow ensures consistency across all outputs and allows for adjustments at every stage of production. As a result, ideas are efficiently translated into clear visual communication.
For projects like “Vierkante Meter,” it is essential that all visual components are both coherent and content-driven. With my background in heritage illustration, design, and spatial sketching, I can respond to the needs of both content experts and communication teams. The result is a visual identity that supports the project narrative in a clear and professional manner.
Flyers, Leaflets & Brochures
As part of the project’s visual output, I designed a range of printed materials including a flyer, a folded information leaflet, and a fully-folded brochure. Each item was developed within the same visual framework to ensure coherence across all formats, while taking into account the practical constraints of layout, folding, and print production. These materials were tailored to different communication moments, from public announcements to in-depth project information.
Wortegem
For the Wortegem edition of Vierkante Meter, I followed the same structured workflow: starting from a client-provided sketch, I developed a 3D layout to determine positioning and perspective, which then served as the basis for the final illustration. This ensured visual accuracy and consistency throughout the project.
